Hundreds of these man-hours were put in weekly by Clearwater area Scientologists to help prison inmates regain their self esteem and turn away from a life of crime. Even serious offenders have been helped. One team of volunteers operating under the authority of the Florida Department of Corrections helped inmates at a maximum security facility. These prisoners not only reported, but demonstrated a more responsible attitude toward their past, present and future.

Other Scientologists provide help with literacy, English as a Second Language, drug rehabilitation and education.

The qualification for most volunteer work is simple — an interest in helping others. The following are some of the other activities that involve Church volunteers. These community efforts are open to volunteers of all religions.
